Kanab City Recreation Director Position

The City of Kanab is now hiring a full-time Recreation Director. This position reports to the City Manager and provides administrative leadership to the department. The Director is responsible for overseeing the planning, development and implementation of recreation, including park facilities, oversees the operation of the City Pool, and recreation services. This is a fast-paced, high quality, service-oriented environment offering a wide range of recreation programs for all age levels. Our Recreation Department is a key part of the quality of life and value we provide to our residents.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Develop and implement a comprehensive Recreation Program that will have a wide appeal across all age groups. Take into consideration the needs, interest and volunteer base of the community

Promote, organize, schedule and supervise youth and adult leagues for a variety of sports. Work with volunteers to plan sporting events and tournaments.

Plan, Organize and schedule monthly programs such as recreational classes, clinics, workshops and community Recreation events.

 Coordinate activities and maintain open communication and excellent public relations with City and County authorities, School District and other agencies

Prepare communications to inform the public of schedules pertaining to programs including pamphlets, web-based sites, social media and community calendar. Plan and direct promotion and publicity for programs and events. Set up online registrations.

Coordinate with City maintenance personnel and school district to insure fields and facilities are maintained at an acceptable, safe level

Develop a volunteer program to support operations of the Recreation Department

Ensure all programs are self-supporting financially.

Attend recreational events as required to ensure smooth operation

Oversees the management and operation of the City Pool

Prepares and Presents written and oral quarterly reports on all aspects of the Recreation Department to the City Manager

Other Duties and Special Projects assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

B.S. in Recreation or related field                                                AND

Sufficient experience in the Recreation industry to demonstrate an aptitude and ability to perform above and related duties                                OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience

            2.         SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

             Must possess a valid Utah Drivers License

Must possess or be able to obtain a first aid/ CPR card within six months of employment. Must agree to and pass a complete background check as an absolute condition of employment. Must be able to work a variable schedule, including some evenings and Saturday.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Tasks require variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, lifting, ect. Talking, hearing, seeing essential to the performance of the job. Function of the position generally performed in a controlled environment, but subject to all weather extremes. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. Position requires appropriate dress for public presentation.
