May 21, 2011 - Kanab honored for 2011 Leadership in the Arts Awards
Governor Gary R. Herbert and the Utah Division of Arts & Museums announced the recipients of the 2011 Governor’s Leadership in the Arts Awards.
“I am pleased to congratulate this year’s recipients of the Governor’s Leadership in the Arts Awards: Scott Anderson, Newell Dayley, the Utah Shakespeare Festival and Kanab City,” said Governor Herbert. “Through their support of the arts, they have enriched the lives of Utahns with their inspired leadership, dedication and passion. They have contributed to our children’s education, the economy of the state, and to the livability of our communities.”
“The Governor’s Leadership in the Arts Awards celebrate extraordinary accomplishments,” said Utah Division of Arts & Museums Director Margaret Hunt. “We are fortunate to have such innovative and visionary individuals and organizations in Utah and we are proud to acknowledge their contributions to our state and our communities.”
Kanab, recipient of the Governor’s Community Leadership in the Arts Award, has emerged as a key arts and entertainment center for the residents of Kanab and Southwestern Utah. Nicknamed “Little Hollywood” because of the many films produced in the area, Kanab supports many artistic organizations and activities including the Kanab Arts Council, a Healing Arts Exhibit at the Kane County Hospital, the Southwest Utah Documentary Film Festival and the Center for Education, Business and the Arts (CEBA), which seek to harness regional resources to build better communities.
